Bain Pre Sccreening Test

Hi guys

I just received an invitation to do a 25 questions (circa 45 minutes) online test for Bain. Tried to look for information around what this will look like but information seems conflicting or with no detail at all.

Will it be like the McKinsey PST (i.e. three cases, 26 questions) or is it basic verbal and numerical reasoning test (e.g. SHL?)

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm on the same boat here. The recruiter mentioned that the case will be different than McK PST and it will be more qualitative heavy instead of quant heavy. That's the only information that the recruiter told me.

Hi, have you done the pre-screening test? What does it look like? I am also invited to do the pre-screening test, and would like to know how the tests are structured.

Hey, I am from Malaysia and i have also got an pre-screening invitation for 25 questions to answers in 50 mins. I am an experienced candidate from other industry.

My invitation reads "Congratulations! We would like to invite you to complete a pre-screening test with Bain & Company SE Asia. You are about to get a first-hand experience on practical Bain casework as the test is based on modified Bain cases and designed to assess your approach to problem solving (i.e. strategic thinking and deductive reasoning). The test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and we would encourage you to choose a quiet environment with good internet connectivity, where you can focus and work uninterrupted for at least 50 minutes".

So is it PST for sure or basic verbal and numerical reasoning test ?.. And if its is PST then what are ways to prepare for the test (i have just 2 days to prepare).. any good test papers?

I am asking you since you must have completed the test by now. Looking forward to your response.

Thanks!

Hello,

I also just got an email from a SEA office about the online test. Can you please share some information? There are mixed information online...

1) Some suggest its a test with two parts - one part with questions on interpreting charts and tables, and the other part on pattern recognition / prediction. 2) Some others suggest that it is like McKinsey PST, which is very different from the above?

Can you please advise which type is it? Do you have any good prep materials / sites?

Many thanks for your help! I will be sure to pay forward as well!

I took the test earlier this year for an Asian office. It's a timed exam much like the McKinsey CEB SHL, but with a format closer to the McKinsey PST (a few cases with multiple questions per case). Slightly harder math questions than the CEB SHL, with a similar time crunch. Verbal questions were reasonable.

IMO it is similar to the PST. Questions revolved around a "case problem", and test your logic, reasoning, numerical proficiency, chart/data interpretation. You might get questions like:

"Which of the following best captures the <span class='keyword_link'><a href="/resources/careers/jobs/CEO-chief-executive-officer">CEO</a></span>'s intention in hiring Bain/CEO's concerns"

"Which piece of analysis would be the most useful in supporting xyz argument?"

Getting familiar with the PST i think would be the most helpful, as you can find the current practice tests / older versions if you do some googling. For charts, getting familiar with all the different types of charts & how to read them will be useful (if you aren't already). The math isn't overly complex but as with timed tests, the challenge is being quick and accurate OR getting to a good enough ballpark quickly; mental math practice wouldn't do harm as well.
