BAML and Citi Toronto Office
Hi all,
I've searched around, but there doesn't seem to be much information on the site. Does anyone know how big the BAML and Citi team are in Toronto? Also, how is their deal flow (assuming not too much) and exit opps?
BAML probably has the biggest (and busiest) BB office in Toronto; I think they're #2 in the Canadian M&A league tables right now. I know some of the analysts have gone to PE at the pension funds (OTPP, CPP etc.) but I haven't heard of anyone going to a US fund recently.
I think Citi Toronto is pretty small.
Citi Canada mainly does coverage work for all of Canada, not much execution. However, the analysts there are great BAML is probably the busiest BB in Toronto, and has execution capabilities in house. baml's Head of Global Mining/NR and Head of Canadian IB is situated in this office. Led the Shoppers and Loblaws deal (landmark deal in Canada).
Citi's office is pretty new, most of the analyst have stayed or lateraled to other shops. BAML's bankers tend to be lifers, the ones that left have gone on to CPP, OTPP, and Onex. All in all, both are great shops to be in.
Thanks for the info!
Haven't been back in Canada for a while, what's the state of some of the other globals in TO and Calgary ? I know J.P. Morgan only do Asset Management and Corporate banking now in TO. How about CS and Barcap?

Hi WSO,
Have a round 1 interview for BAML coming up. Any insights into the firm would be great.
Thanks in advance!
One of the better foreign IBD banks in Toronto, strong deal flow relatively speaking and pretty good culture
Great office, very good culture. Arguably the best global BB in Toronto - tons of deal flow and it's definitely nothing of a satellite office; they generate a ton of deals in Canada on their own
