Bank of America/Wachovia IB
I am currently a student at the University of Georgia and was wondering if the IB departments for BofA or Wachovia were any easier to break into than those of GS and ML. I should graduate with around a 3.9 GPA with some decent internships so I doubt I will make it to a Goldman Sachs IB department but would I have a shot at these firms? Thanks in advance for any help.
Do they recruit on campus at UGA? Typically, BofA and Wachovia are more lenient on credentials then say, GS/MS.
I don't see why you're counting yourself out of BB I-banks already. Apply and see what happens. It's worth a shot. I've heard of plenty of people get into Wall Street from state schools who have GPA's lower than yours. If you have some good internship experience, that will help a lot.
As for BoA, yes, they are pretty competitive from what I hear. I go to a tier 3 school however and people have gotten in within recent years. They have gotten hired for GS, MS, and JPM as well.
Fun fact, many people claim that GS only accepts from ivy league schools and such. While it definitely does help to come from targets, Goldman hired interns from over 100 colleges last year, according to Vault.
Good luck.
Maybe Goldman hired from 100 different colleges for all of their programs (including HR, tech support, janitorial services), but definitely not into the banking program alone.
I coudn't find many posts for BofA and Wachovia as they are not discussed that much on this forum.
But what type of GPA would you say is typical/safe for these two firms coming from a non target school, not HYPSW.
Not much easier. The same exact people on the interview schedule on GS/MS are on the BAS/Wach lists. People like to hedge themselves...
