Banking to REPE?

Hi everyone, I am an incoming SA at a top EB’s restructuring group. Given that my end goal is REPE, should I try to recruit full time for REIB groups? Can I have a shot at REPE funds without any prior specific RE experience (going from Rx to REPE)? I would to hear some of your stories if anyone has done a similar move.

Within the first 1 - 3 years of your career almost any transition is possible provided A) Your first role provides general experience in excel modeling, even if it isn’t the same exact type of modeling (ie, corp fin vs RE) and B) You demonstrate that you’ve taken steps to learn the fundamentals of the role you’re trying to break into and have a good story. Firms aren’t hiring analysts to be experts, they’re hiring them to train them into experts. RE related experience will help expand your options and you may have to work a little harder and be a bit more open to different opportunities within REPE if you come from a Corp Fin background, but the door is very far from shut.
