Baruch Argus training course
Baruch in NYC has a month long Argus training course in person for any one to take. It's $399 vs. $1000 for Argus cert.
Would this be just as good as getting certified? would it look good on resume to employers? I have a full time job now but 1000 to shell out for the cert is a lot.
I took the course and didn't get the certification. I've gotten enough interviews to think it was worth it. No employer has really mentioned it but I'm pretty sure they notice it. I did it just to make my resume look more like I was interested/dedicated to real estate. If that's what you're looking for then I think it's worth the cost.
The course is DCF not AE, fwiw. I hardly know the program since I don't use it yet, but again that's not what I was truly hoping to get out of it, more to put on the resume, which you sound to have the same thought process.
Interesting, thanks.
i also have no idea if i do the cert or even just buy the software to play around..if i should get DCF or AE.
Took the course. It is taught by Hillman Lam, and ex Time Equities employee, who has struck out on his own.
You won't get a lot by buying argus and playing around with it. So I would recommend the course, good networking, plus you get a very good working knowledge of Argus. You also get printouts with step by step instruction on how to build an Argus model. I have not heard anything about the Argus cert, but a $600 difference seems like a small amount to get a cert which is recognized in the industry.
As an afterthought I know people who worked for Arbor and Silverstein who used the course all analyst level guys. Lots of young people, and there were a few older AM guys.
if i do the cert, I am unsure if I should do DCF or AE.
the thing that concerns me with taking the month course, is, after a month, I won't have Argus available to me to practice.
DCF, if everyone is doing AE then nobody is going to hold it against you.
Yeah that's fine, as long as you can know how to do it.
Looks like it's between DCFCert and the Baruch class. As I want to end up in a firm in NYC, like other said, I'd be in center of the action with chances to network.
To add, a lot of firms(big firms) are on the cusp on adding AE or just added AE.
