Basic Cover Letter Question

Hi guys... There seems to be two major types of cover letters:

-The cover letter that purely brags about skills/experiences, and often involves a bullet format.

-The cover letter that gives short stories (one paragraph) exemplifying skills.

Which do you believe is more successful in the finance industry? Are there other ideas for a cover letter that you have? Any good examples?

Thanks in advance...

Should you write a cover letter? Yes, always (I know it's a pain in the ass but a lot of firms value the time you put in to write it)

Will anyone read it? 90% of the time they won't. It often serves as a writing sample, since as an IB analyst you will be writing and editing quite frequently.

Someone once told me "a good cover won't necessarily help your chances but a bad one will kill any chance you ever had." Bottom line, take the time to research the firm and write a solid cover letter.

I had a ton of interviews/interest and I'm not sure if it was because of my resume or because I spent days perfecting my cover letter. Probably the former. PM me if you want to see my cover letter format, maybe get some ideas. But I always wrote mine in paragraph/story form.

Bingo mate.

They figure if you wont put in the effort to write a cover letter, you dont have the drive they are looking for.
