BB BO Internship - What are my options?

Hi all,

I received my placement information for a Finance Analyst SA program at a BB this summer and am a little bummed. I'd like some advice to make the most of my internship and enhance my opportunities.

I was placed in the BB's BO with the which was totally unexpected as I made IB and Commercial Banking ops my priorities per the placement survey. However, I think the reason I was placed there was because I'm staying with a relative who lives basically on the on the Hudson River.

Being that I'm from a no name non-target (emphasis on non-target) and even landing the internship was a HUGE deal for someone with my background, I'm trying to stay positive but was really looking forward to working in NYC and am also worried that my social experience may be hindered since I'll be BO.

Anyone have any advice or am I just blowing this out of proportion? Any positives would be great. I know this is a huge opportunity regardless for someone my age (graduating college this Fall), and I was truly humbled and honored to say I was chosen by this particular BB, but I was expecting much much more. Thanks all for your time.

Yeah, I expected a FO or MO position based on how I replied to the survey. Unless I misinterpreted the program altogether and it was going to be BO regardless. We were given choices between different lines of business (IBD, CB) or a corporate area. But the internship was specified to be in the NYC area.

I'm a little confused. How do you interview for a position and then have the option for to be placed across FO, MO or BO? Or is this unique to business analytics?

I think he had a misunderstanding of the program. He was most likely completing a survey for which part of the operation he would prefer to be supporting.

Should I get in touch with my contact at the bank and ask for a different division (even though they said it's final) or am I exaggerating and not counting my blessings or not realizing this is actually a great opportunity considering my background? I'd really love your guys' input.

"Finance Analyst" means reporting/accounting. I'm surprised that your expectations are so off base. If you were going to, for instance, investment banking, the title would be "Investment Banking Analyst". What happened in your interview process? Did you ask anything about the position?

Also, your 'social experience' shouldn't be impacted negatively by being in BO. If anything, it should be better since your hours will be significantly better.
