BB IB Analyst - Hard time lateraling

I'm a first-year at a Barclays/CS in NY and having a hard time lateraling. I want to go to a top bank / group to finish up my analyst stint (GS/Evercore etc) to help place better and get more M&A reps. Does anyone have any advice? I know literally every bank seems to be hiring but I don't have any contacts there and no one is responding to my emails since they are so slammed.

You probably already know this, but one thing to remember is that every analyst looking to lateral (whether boutique or mid-BB) is throwing their hat in the ring for the top BB/EB. Given you're already at a mid-BB, you have limited options since there are only so many banks you'd be willing to jump to. On the other hand, given the drastic need for workers across all banks, a lot of people who would have never gotten into banking normally are being given the chance to jump in.

Also, just keep reaching out to more people. I work at a BB and I haven't gotten a single email from a lateral in the past several months (though sophomores reach out at least once a week).

As someone who graduated in December and started in a non-IB finance role, should I start reaching out to people? I really want IB and thought I'd need to wait ~1 yr to start trying to lateral but want to make the move asap

I'm curious - I have friends at both of these places, and none are too concerned about placement. Could you elaborate on the motivations for wanting to lateral? It might not only be helpful for the young folks here but also might be able to allow us to advise you better.
