BB in NYC or BB in Atlanta
This summer I will be working at a BB in Atlanta within their corporate banking division. Assuming I get the return offer, should I stay in Atlanta or move to NYC? I know that NYC is the ideal destination for anyone in finance, but the salary is identical and I am wondering if the added "prestige" justifies the cost difference.
Depends on your preference/lifestyle really. I visited Atlanta for one of my super days and I did not like the city.
I am pretty indifferent about my location, which is why I am wondering if location will impact my exit opportunities. I would just like to put myself in the best position possible for recruiting if I decide to leave.
I don't think you're going to have a flood of exit opps coming from CB unless you are able to lateral into your banks IB and try exiting from there.
If you're indifferent on location, I'd say you're crazy to take the NYC over ATL spot -- the amount of money you'll be able to save will be quite material. And fuck all those dumbass kids who don't think saving money "early on in your career" is important, it is.
If you are looking to maximize your career upsides, I’d take New York vs Atlanta. New York is the most relevant financial center in the world and the vast majority of exit opportunities are there. I’d stay in Atlanta only if you are already planning to go back to Business School and want to save as much as you can before that (but Atlanta might hurt your chances of getting into a top school).
That's exactly what I was afraid of, but I appreciate the insight!
