BB -> MBB: What Level?
Quick question: If an analyst at GS/MS/JPM wants to lateral into McK/Bain/BCG after his 2 years, what level would he join as? Business Analyst or Associate?
Thanks!

Analyst, 2nd or 3rd year, with potential for fast promotion to Associate/Consultant.

How hard would it be to jump from a 2 year stint at a BB to a top consulting firm. And assuming one completes both entry programs, would you be a near lock for a top notch business school?
not sure if it would be that wise. you do two years of monkey work at a BB you're just about to get promoted (and have someone else do the monkey work for you) you leave to become an entry level monkey at MBB
Yeah, you would definitely join as an analyst, but might have a different track. It's tough to lateral to these places for those roles, espec BCG/McK because their classes are so small. MBA->Consultant is a better option. Or you could look into some of their specific openings in case you fit their qualifications.
Lateral hire from bulge bracket investment firm to MBB (Originally Posted: 08/10/2016)
Hello - I'm hoping to merge from client facing derivatives role at GS to an MBB. I have 2+ years experience and an undergrad from a nontarget school with an avg. GPA (around 3.4). Is lateral applying into an MBB possible? When do you suggest applying and how might I go about building my network? I'm looking for a focus in healthcare consulting specifically, would you suggest going the boutique route rather than MBB?
GS is definitely a good stamp on your resume and it has a weight in the eyes of recruiting departments of MBB. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't make it. I think you may incur the risk of losing a bit of seniority in the career change (i.e. they may give you only 1 year of seniority and you may be joining as analyst 2nd year).
Definitely not associate. Banking stint would not provide sufficient experiences to enable a banking analyst to succeed as a consulting associate (e.g. soft skills, project team structure, etc.)
having lateraled from another consulting firm to MBB with a very transferable skill-set, i have some insight for my firm at least.
less than 2 years - start from scratch
2-3 years - potential if you wow your interviewers to start between entry tier and 2nd tier (post-MBA) with a fast-track promotion option, but otherwise possibility that you start from scratch
3+ - not really sure...
bleedblue82, I had a few qs. sent you a PM
