BB offer deferral?
I have a summer internship at a BB this coming summer. If I were to get an offer I would do my final year at university then start the job.
However I have recently been given an offer to do a study abroad in between my 2nd and 3rd year. which means I graduate a year later than planned. So if I were to get an offer from my BB, would they be willing to let me do that study abroad and graduate a year later than initially planned?
Short answer: bad idea
Long answer: They hire you with the expectation you join the following summer full time. If you mention this at all during your summer it could get miscommunicated and you end up with no offer at all - if you receive a full time offer and then ask about this you still run the risk of a rescinded offer. Never heard of of a deferral but I imagine reasons for it would be very much highly case by case, and I doubt that a study abroad meets the requisite.
okay scrap the study abroad, do you think they wouldn't mind me taking a masters then?
The best case scenario here is that you would get a return offer to do another summer, and then you get to re-earn a return offer. Depends on your goals / reasons for going for the masters program, and if those aren't especially compelling, it is probably a bad idea given you already have a strong SA role.
Agree with the above. Some BBs will let you do a gap year with a specific program, but delaying graduation just to study abroad is probably a no go.
Dont do this. You will come back with no job
Scrap your year abroad, and ask for deferral for you to travel then. In the first senario the bank will assume you lied on your graduation date and pull your offer. In the latter, they will be fine with it in most cases as its more of a break before you start working.
Without knowing the identity of your future employer, I would scrap the abroad plans and intentions of pursuing a masters. You will have sufficient time to travel between graduation and moving to New York.
Don’t gap. They hire you because they need someone to show up at that date. If you don’t show up, they might just find someone else. If you are studying abroad for traveling - no. You can travel during breaks trust me.
just travel before your start date my guy
