BB Sophomore SA w/No Offer & Undergrad Buyside Opportunities

I recently completed a summer analyst program at a BB as a sophomore. Due to factors both in and out of my control (I don't want to get too specific here), I was not offered the opportunity to return. However, feedback from the people I worked directly with was often very positive, and I left on good terms with both my staffer as well as the group as a whole. At this point, I have had a chance to do a lot of self-reflection over the course of the summer, and believe I have everything that I need to succeed next time around.

Many of the BBs and practically all of the EBs seem to have already filled up their 2019 summer analyst classes, and those that have not may view my lack of a return offer as reason to turn me down without second thought. I am interested in continuing a career in banking, and have also considered trying to leverage my experience into an internship at a HF. The narrative for the latter is much easier explained (shifting interests), however, I feel fairly confident in explaining my situation during an interview for both-- getting one seems to be the hardest part. That said, I'm curious about what opportunities still exist within banking at this stage in the recruitment cycle as well as other opportunities outside of banking (distressed debt funds, PE, etc). Any advice in addition to what I've posted would be much appreciated.
