BB Switzerland Visa Sponsorship
Hey guys,
After much work, sweat and tears I finally landed a graduate position in a BB!
However, I'm now faced with another kind of a struggle. The position I was offered was in Zurich and I have heard that it was extremely hard for a non-EU national to be sponsored for a work permit/visa.
I was wondering if anyone had previous experience working in Switzerland as a non-EU citizen. What are my chances of being sponsored as a junior employee? (on their website they say they do, but since Switzerland is a special case I still have doubts)
I speak French, Arabic, and English, and just graduated from a top French business school if it helps in any way.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Congratulations, I've been trying to get a job in Zürich and haven't had any luck yet.
If they already made you the offer I would expect they are comfortable pushing you through the visa process. Getting the job offer is the main obstacle. The onus is on the employer to demonstrate they tried to hire someone locally but have to hire you instead.
Only downside is the length of time to process may be a few months. And for non EU my understanding is you need to wait to receive the visa before starting work, so you could be sitting on your hands for a few months in Switzerland not able to start work waiting for your visa to process.
Hopefully it works out for you.
Thanks man, I wish you good luck ... for some reasons I didn't pass through any screening except for this company so I really went all in during the interviews.
From my understanding the bank has to apply for the work permit, and I have to apply for the visa separately, then if the work permit application is approved they give clearance for the visa to be given. So I all I can do is really cross my fingers really hard to be sponsored and for the work permit application to work out.
That makes sense, but I'd be curious about hearing if anyone has gotten a visa application revoked after getting a job offer from a reputable company in a very developed country.
Hey man, unfortunately yes I was transferred to another country. From what I've heard it is extremely hard/almost impossible for a non European to be sponsored for a Swiss visa (for junior positions). However, if you are more senior it's considerably easier to be get the visa though.
Wow really? I am sorry to hear that. So would you recommend going to a Swiss uni then? I guess not, since its difficult for non EU people. Also, which industry do you work in?
I'm in private banking. Regarding your question on uni, going to uni in Switzerland does help a lot.
I work in wealth management. If you wanna work in Switzerland, your best bet is indeed to go to a Swiss uni. Since Switzerland only got a 1 or 2 good schools if you are unable to get into one of them it will be very hard to get into a BB.
Why is difficult to be sponsored as a non-EU national? Switzerland isn't in the EU or (technically) in the single market, so I don't see any compelling reason why being an citizen of an EU country would matter.
