BBA Major: Finance v. Accounting

I am a rising Sophomore at Baruch College and am torn between the finance and accounting majors..
I was originally going to do finance because I want a career in either IB or Consulting.. however i have been told by many that accounting is the best way to go because it enables you to read a balance sheet and know what your talking about and so on...

What are your thoughts on the 2?

Finance is good. I'm majoring in it now. But if I had to do it over again (or had the funds to pay for another year and a half) I would do Accounting. Accounting can get you into the same jobs as Finance, plus there are other jobs that are just exclusive to accounting. Although I will say this, a buddy of mine graduated last year with a finance/accounting double major and works for an accounting firm and says nothing he learned in school is what they use in the 'real world'.

Im graduating in Dec. with a degree in Finance (3.5) and Ive gotten quite a few interviews for Entry level accountant positions, not so much for Finance positions other than sales which I'm not interested in. Just pick whichever you want and you can always use electives for whatever you want.

Accounting is better if you want to do something that has to do with financial statements.... and even if you dont its most likely fine. You can major in accounting and take some additional finance classes anyway... Accounting is better bc u build some sort of expertise in financial statements, which is actually useful. I was a finance major and i wish I did accounting....I think finance majors like to think acct is beneath them when that is totally the wrong attitude, when you are building models its 99% accounting and 1% finance... Finance is worth a few books not a whole major....
