BB/EB Bankers, How Does UVA Major Choice Affect Recruiting Prospects?
As a rising second-year pursuing IB internships, I am considering two tracks:
1) Finish early (2021) with an Economics degree. To maintain eligibility for junior internships, I wouldn't technically receive the degree until 2023.
2) Spend four years earning a McIntire Finance degree.
I prefer finishing early for financial reasons. However, I fear that certain banks (e.g., Evercore) prize the McIntire designation, even though students sign offers before starting McIntire courses.
Is McIntire's superior placement simply due to self-selection? Will ditching COMM make some banks overlook me? My fourth-year mentors disagree with each other on these topics. I would greatly appreciate insights from BB/EB bankers--especially those involved with UVA recruiting. Thanks!
