Does anyone know much about BB&T's Leadership Development Program?

I interviewed there last year, on-campus interview and then one of their 'superdays'. To be honestly, I really didn't think much of the program. They have the capital markets group, but its pretty small and only a few LDPS will be placed there (a good majority of the interviewees were aiming for CM). However, the pay is only 45k, so its not really competitive. PM me for more details on the process.
My college roommate got into this program. Training apparently was at several locations throughout the southeastern region. Although you only make mid-40s, your living expenses--including food and rent--for almost 6 months are paid for. My (now former) roommate was able to pay off all of his student loans with the savings. He was with the company for about 12 months exactly--he was put on the branch manager track. He is now a consultant at IBM.
Oh yeah, from what I understand, there were a TON of hot girls working throughout the program. So FML.
I think its different now VT4ever. Last year, everyone had to be located in Winston-Salem, their headquarters. It's a deadbeat town with not much going on. The program has been expanded for a longer period of time and living expenses are NOT paid for. No negotiation with salary.
But VT4ever is right about the girls. The recruiters definitely appreciated a good looking girl because there are a bunch.
Wow, yeah, things must have definitely changed. Class of 2007 recruiting was in fall 2006 of course, and my roommate definitely negotiated salary or it was higher then (in fact, I believe his was $50k because I remember us comparing our offers like wang sizes) and had living expenses paid for. He said that was the single best thing about their comp package.
So I hear ya--things have DEFINITELY changed.
These training programs are great. You do nothing but train all the time. Get paid, per diem, travel around. Once they decide to stick you in a crappy area (aka retail) just quit and go somewhere else. Most banks scoop up larger banks training individuals.

Good advice, assuming BB&T is ethical about employment standards. Spend a few minutes on your favorite search engine and you will find examples of BB&T suing employees that left the company - they are seeking damages in excess of the employee's after-tax earnings they received. The media is scorching banks for charging a $25 checking overdraft fee - what about suing an 23-year-old for $40,000 because they had to move back home to take care of their mother?

Would this be better than regular credit training program at a commercial bank, since it offers (albeit slight possibility) exposure to a Corp Fin or Capital Market ?

Hello, this is my first post! I graduated in May 2015 with a degree in Finance and I have moved on to BB&T's superday in Winston-Salem to interview for a position as a LDP associate. I have a bunch of questions but some of the main ones are
(1) Will the interview be technical? I graduated with honors but I forgot a lot of what I learned.
(2) How do they place you in terms of Business Banking or one of their corporate divisions?
3) What is the culture like? Is it a place where I could foreseeably work for at least 5 years?

Most likely not but it depends. If I "had" to bet I'd say no though.

They already know that. College degree doesn't equal to "what you have learned". It equals to "what you are capable of learning".

I hope what you're saying is true. I might make the case during the interview that through my grades I have demonstrated my ability to learn and that with the right training I am confident I will succeed in the work field.
BB&T seems to be growing pretty well. It's probably the largest bank to have done any meaningful bank acquisitions in the past 2-3 years.
If you think management at a bank is what you want to do and you like the Southeast as a region, I would be really excited about this role. Even if you end up moving on, very respected name within the bank space.

do not work there, they have a 5 year commitment where your one year salary amortizes over the 5 years and time you leave you pay that amount left, can be quite costly.
Yeah, I heard about that. BB&T sounds like a solid company though. The type of company I could see myself for the duration of my career. Sounds like they have a pretty good pension package too.
It literally depends on your placement after the program because while you can plane locations a priority you really have no say and can end up in the middle of nowhere. There is actually a class action lawsuit on the having to pay them back If you want to read about the program hours and pay and all that
No no, if you can get a formal credit program go for it. Leadership programs are a little better if you are interested in management, corp finance, etc. Credit Analyst training will place you in credit role which has some transferable features.

I know there's been a few threads on this in the past, but I was hoping to get some feedback for anyone that has experience with BB&T's Leadership Development Program. The jist of the program is that they train you at their HQ for 7 months before placing you within a line of business. The placement could be anything between Capital Markets and working in a branch.
I have another from a F500 company as part of a Finance/Strategy rotation. This offer is substantially higher than BB&T, but I'd prefer a career in Banking (though not married to it) and this companies name isn't that prominent all things considered.
Is any familiar with LDP at BB&T or might have any insight to how it looks on a resume compared to another offer? My main concern is that I have no control over my placement at BB&T after the program is over and could easily end up in a low paying lame duck situation.
