BCG GAMMA?

Got dinged by BCG generalist after 1st round, but got a phone interview with GAMMA. Want to start thread since not much information is available for gamma right now...

  1. interview process.
what is that 30 mins phone interview with recruiter about? background? mini case? experience?

  2. difference with generalist
is gamma supposed to be a supporting role?
are gammas paid the same as the generalist?

appreciate any input!

Assuming you are referring to the data scientist role, it's my understanding that Gamma DS roles are usually paid the same as generalists when you first enter.

In general, Gamma DS roles are not supporting roles - they are consultants who specialize on advanced analytics projects. Gamma teams may be staffed on clients on their own, or be brought in on generalist engagements when necessary. When staffed on their own, Gamma Data Scientists will perform more "generalist" functions (client interaction, building presentations, etc). When staffed alongside generalists, Gamma consultants will usually focus more on technical aspects of the project.

I had a similar experience. Rejected for the generalist role, but GAMMA was interested in having me interview for a Senior Data Scientist position. So far I've been through the phone screening and did the technical case. I'll be presenting my results next week and have a business case interview with them on Oct 1.

The phone call with the recruiter was mainly to gauge my interests and experience. There were some behavioral questions, but there wasn't anything technical. It was also a chance to tell me about the position and let me answer questions. What I learned is that the GAMMA consultants are like the generalists, except they deal with cases that are much more data oriented. They are paid the same and have a similar amount of travel and hours. It definitely isn't a supporting role.

Hi

I’m in a similar situation right now. Finished the case study and waiting on the presentation date to be confirmed.

If you’ve had your presentation would you mind sharing how it went?

What questions were asked throughout? Was it a focus on the theory of the models or were they more business goal oriented?

Any advice on what to prep for would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi Thanks for sharing this information! I'm about to have the interview for BCG GAMMA next week. Would you be open to share some more details about the technical case? Much appreciated!

Finished my 1st round interview with GAMMA and got invitation to 2nd round. So back to my own post to share my experience.

  1. initial phone screening interview with recruiter: 30 minutes, pretty laid back. Mostly check-list your credentials (in machine learning, python/r, etc), behavioral (have you worked in a team etc., pretty basic and short). Mininal technical questions.

  2. take home technical case interview: 5 days to solve a case, then make a ppt. If the recruiter thinks your ppt is good, you will be extended an invitation for the technical interview with a gamma consultant, which is part of the first round. The interview is to present your ppt to the consultant, as if s/he is the client. You need to go through your business insights, and explain how your model works, or whatever you deem reasonble and logical for the case you are assigned. Basically, you need to present THE ppt you sent to HR. Keep in mind of it when you are making it. During the technical interview, the interviewer will mostly mimic the client to ask businessy questions, but will also switch roles to ask you technical questions, like how you build the model etc.

  3. First round case interview: the first round has two interviews, one is the technical one described above, the other is the regular BCG case interview. If you have already done the generalist first round interview with BCG, no need to do it again for GAMMA.

Then you wait for the second round.

Hi,

Thanks for the post, good info.

I am waiting for my technical test presentation interview date at the moment.

I read elsewhere that this interview is the final stage of round 1, and then it proceeds to round 2 (2x45 min case study interviews) and stage 3 (again, 2x45 min case study interviews).

In your recruitment process, are you assuming there is a round 3?

Thanks

Hi NeverSayNever and HappyScamp,

Thank you for the Q&A above. It was helpful.

I have my first interview (Phone screening) early next week, and will hopefully be in the process for the rest of the rounds. I was hoping to reach out to both of you for some more guidance and tips. Hope that is OK.

Since I just created my account with WSO, I'll have to wait for 2 days before I can DM.

Cheers!

Has anyone in this forum given BCG Gamma Hackerrank test? If yes, then please tell me about the details of it. I need to complete it in two days.

Hi,

So how did the hacker rank test go? I have to give mine in few days. Can you share some insight.

Thanks
