BCG Interview in One Week -- Best Final Preparation Tips?
I received a BCG first-round interview out of the blue a few weeks ago. I am from a non-target and although I had some familiarity with case interviews, I had to brush up quite a bit as I was unfamiliar with MBB interviews.
I have done two mocks with current BCGers, and the only critique was to work on the structuring of my framework and driving the case with a hypothesis rather than asking questions the entire way. My communication, summarization, math skills, and creativity were strong points. Since then, I have done about 10 cases on my own. However, I still feel I struggle the most setting up the hypothesis and not knowing what to do when I hit a wall with a lack of information.
With all of this being said, do any former MBB consultants or interviewees have any recommendations with preparation during my final week? I realize there may not be enough detail to provide specific advice, and I can shed more light as needed. Thank you all; I truly appreciate all the help!
Hi FlyEaglesFly, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
You're welcome.
One thing that helped me was watching examples on YouTube and creating my own framework for how to approach the case.
Pick up on the things that feel natural for you from others' examples and work them into your game plan. Once you feel more comfortable with the order you want to even say things, I think you'll be better on your way.
If your biggest weakpoint is structuring, then you need to practice that specifically. My recommendation is to get on a call with as many MBB this week as you can, tell them that you want to work on structuring, and then ask if they will spend an hour going through structuring drills and tips with you.
Do NOT do this alone. You'll need the help from others. Don't justify that it's "almost as good" alone, because it's not, and you'll start to do things in a certain way and stop learning simply because you're not sure of the better ways to do it (blind spot). Reach out, look at other's structures, drill, and you should be good to go.
