BCG vs. Evercore

What do you guys think?

I am having a hard time deciding between the two. I feel like BCG would be all around a better experience, but Evercore would be top notch for PE placement and obviously higher pay. But then BCG is a regional office, so my expenses would be much lower than living in New York.

Evercore is one of the top 3 elite boutiques in the world -- if you want to do PE later on then it is the obvious choice.

They are #5 right now for 2009 M&A advisory, only behind MS, GS, JPM and Citi.

BCG will definitely get you into great MBA but it will be harder to make the shift to PE since you will not have the modeling experience you would be getting at Evercore.

NY seems expensive, but getting rid of the car can save $500+ a month if you consider car payment, gas, insurance, maintenance.

Evercore and don't look back.

This almost has to be a troll but I'll bite...

They are fundamentally different jobs. If you seriously do not know whether you want to do consulting or banking, you need to think about which industry you would prefer to work in.

Evercore is 5th in US M&A . It's something like 11th or 12th worldwide.

I agree with ideating. They are very different jobs. In terms of opportunities after, BCG will have greater name recognition. If you know you want to end up in PE or a HF then Evercore will give you the best opportunity and experience for that.

However if you aren't sure about it, BCG will by far keep the most doors open for you. BCG also places better for MBA programs.

If you think BCG would be the better experience for you, I would choose that.

Don't pick between the two firms... pick between the two industries.

Would you rather do consulting or banking? That's all it should be.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I think I'm going with BCG. I want to keep all my options open, and I feel like I will learn more in a consulting career. Plus, so much better work-life balance. I didn't think the extra 30-40K is worth living a miserable banking lifestyle. Not that it isn't a great job, but that's just how I feel right now.

I would've picked Evercore as its easier to switch from Evercore to MBB than it is from MBB to top boutique, but if you don't want to work those hours then I guess its understandable (though bcg works long too).
