Best commodity career paths?
Hello WSO'ers,
First time posting here, wanted some career path advice.
Currently a sophomore in university (finance undergrad), very interested in commodities (specifically energy but open to learning anything). Was curious if anyone knows some possible career paths that combine huge interest in commodities, relationship/people-person mindset, and experience with continuous improvement/lean practices. Worked for F100 firm for 3-4 years in that area. In process of creating first commodity fund on campus (only other fund is long-only equities), thought that might help.
I've met a few folks in origination but that's about it, curious if any others I can work toward.
Thanks all,
HB
I would highly recommend looking into a commodity merchandising role at an ag/energy trading house (Cargill, ADM, Vitol, Trafi). Very relationship driven businesses where logistics play a huge role which lends to your interest in lean practices. PM if you have any more specific questions.
