People don’t go from day trader to prop trader YouTube has lied to you.
Well... technically he can go become a prop trader by putting down his own capital to get leverage at a T3 arm for like maybe 5 grand. Market making? Probably not. But a day trading shop? Probably. These guys will take anyone who is willing to put down money. Besides, why shouldn't they? They have nothing to lose besides an open seat. When I first got into the business, I was actually day trading penny stocks and lost money and thought Tim Skyes was God ten years ago lol. I was completely ignorant of the industry. And I worked at a day trading firm called World Trade Securities, which was a huge contender with T3 and I got my series 56 there before they got bought out by T3. There I was day trading cash equities but didn't touch options because I had no idea how to trade them. At the time, I was gambling but there was this guy sitting behind me, he was a effin hot shot. I think to this day, he is still day trading. Has two kids and a wife living in center city, Philadelphia in a nice apartment and his wife doesn't work, so he must be killing it because I remember one time, he went to the bathroom and I quickly looked over at this screen and he was up $1,600 for the day at 11am. When I lost my job at BMO Capital Markets, I really thought about going back to day trading again and I met with T3 in their NYC office and they had my track record back from ten years ago because they bought out my old firm. And immediately laid down an offer but at the same time, I had an interview with De Shaw for their prop trader position so I declined but surprisingly, they mentioned the guy above and they literally they told me in all of the years of knowing day traders, he was THE best intra day trader they've ever met in their life. Even to this day, even though this guy have never worked at a bank trading desk or a hedge fund like myself but I will always look up to him for being that 5%, unreal how he did it.
What a killer. I remember one time he threw a chair across the floor but you know what, he always grinded it out and never had a losing month.
I wish I can share his name on here but I'm not gonna blast him like that.
If you were trading penny stocks ~10-15yrs ago you may find this interesting:
Watched it the other day and thought it was nifty.
