Best Freshman and Sophmore Internships for future in IB?
Hello WSO,
I come from a semi-target, yet aspire to network efficiently and eventually land a job in NYC at an IB. As a current freshman, I'm interested in gaining knowledge regarding the most effective internship "pathway".
I've heard that an internship in private wealth management is the way to go, but with no financial experience thus far, I'm not sure how to build my resume and acquire these necessary internships. As for connections, my aunt whom I am very close with is the president of a local bank in my state. I also have a family member working as the VP of a major corporation. Lastly, I am a brother of a fraternity that has alumni working for multiple IB's, and a brother from my chapter working as an associate at a BB.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You are in an excellent position given your connections. As a underclassmen look to get as close to IB as possible with your summer internship. I have heard that JPM has programs for underclassmen so definitely try to leverage your fraternity to score an interview. Worst case scenario you can always work for Redacted which is a reputable mm retail bank in the Midwest, and given your connection you will get your pick of the department. If you end up at Redacted this summer and have hopes of going into IBD I would recommend trying to get into a group that deals with syndicate/leveraged loans as this will give your a terrific knowledge-base for investment banking in the coming summers.

It seems as if you have the beginnings of what could be a very fruitful network, so I would definitely reach out to them for advice. Also, you might want to rethink publishing your full name and information on this forum. It took me less than 10 seconds on Google to find out what school you attend. Obviously, you haven't posted anything to be worried about, but you might find yourself later wishing you had remained anonymous. Just my two cents.

Leverage your network, but don't be afraid to shoot out cold emails for that first internship. That's how I landed my PWM internship sophomore year.
