Best internship to go MBB full time, Big tech or Big 4 consulting?
If my goal is to join an MBB firm full time in the future, is it better to intern at a big tech firm (FAANG) in a business analyst role, or go right into MC with a big 4 consulting firm (KPMG)?
It seems the obvious answer would be to go ahead and get some consulting experience if that's what I want to do, though I tend to see lots of students lateral from tech firms to MBB whereas many big 4 consulting interns seem to struggle to make the jump to MBB. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I would suggest FAANG if MBB is your main priority. KPMG internship --> MBB isn't as common of a path as something like Deloitte internship --> MBB. Also, think about what you'll do full-time if you can't get an MBB offer. A full-time BA role at Amazon (which is what I assume you're referring to) is likely substantially better than consulting at KPMG, which I believe has the weakest consulting practice of the Big 4.
FAANG is at the top of it's game. All those firms are the most highly sought after in general. If you had an internship there you'd have a top tier name on your resume. KPMG is a well known firm and a great place to work, but it's a tier 2 firm and it isn't extremely common to go from KPMG to MBB. I'd rather be have a resume that shows I was at the best place in my field than a 2nd tier firm so I'd pick FAANG
