Hi Europe Banker, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
Hope that helps.

I would disagree with some of the previous posts based on league tables and some alumni working there:
International BBs that run the spanish market are Citi, MS and GS (Citi is the solo leader) Boutiques that are big are AZ, Arcano and Alantra (MM) EBs that do have high presence are Lazard and PJT (could add rothschild to the list) Big4 play almost no role in the market
As far as I know entering into the spanish BBs is harder than doing it in London (at HEC Spanish students were encouraged to apply to London to increase chances), EBs are pretty flexible and they are not that well regarded in the spanish market (just Lazard is seem as top notch), AZ pays below market (not sure about this myth, friends from uni did only make an off cycle there and left) and BBVA is focused on CL where they are pretty strong.
There is no real point in applying to this marker from the start, its way easier to go to london and then go back to your home country. In any case, as a foreigner you better not even try, they look for a very strong spanish (native level). Furthermore, usually the whole classes of analysts ,even at the boutiques, do come from target universities or semitargets. (Both national and international ones)
EDIT: No idea about "GBS Finance" role in the spanish market, can any expert on the spanish market shed some light? Just seen their web and seems solid (apparently) with a nice senior team for a boutique.
In terms of mid-market I would add AZ Capital, GBS Finance and DC Advisory.
Hope it helps!
DC Advisory is a very solid shop in Spain (former Montalban), AZ Capital is nice and GBS Finance is growing fast
Very few IB only banks of that size in Spain. For MM Lazard and PJT are the strongest, with Alantra coming right below the two imo. There are also a lot of boutiques that have quite a strong regional presence, typically
Alantra has showed a huge growth due to their geographical growth and to increase their headcount with seniors looking for cross-border deals
Data points: - Renta 4 is really really small and is mainly asset management. - Az Capital is the best boutique by far. - Citigroup and Goldman are the biggest players. - Agree that spanish Banks are the worst. - Big 4 only do valuation, financial DD etc. not really M&A. - Pay is shit, analyst is 35k base + 10k bonus (eur).
Hadnt read this, you mean its just 45k for IB all in? Who does IB for this? or is it middle market with MM hours? Can you elaborate more on which shops do pay this? Sounds crazy
Yep its just 45k for basically all top shops. BBVA, Santander etc pay even less 28-37. Welcome to Spain, COL is lower than London, Frankfurt etc. but yeah salaries suck here
BBVA is better than Santander (their graduate program) and has a better IB franchise even if pay keeps being very low
