Best MBAs for West Coast Real Estate Private Equity Recruitment
I've recently become more interested in a CRE MBA and I'm looking to get more information about which MBAs are best for west coast mega funds (Oaktree, Ares, etc.) as well as what positions these mega funds recruit for during the MBA internship (Investments / Acquisitions Associate? AVP? VP?)
So far, I've heard UCLA's Anderson MBA is a top school in the west, but I'm curious what others would be great as well for the west. For example, will going to Wharton afford me just as much (if not more) opportunities in the west coast than UCLA's Anderson?
as you might now, PE recruiting is all about networking and talking to the right people. For funds based in LA, being at school there will be a big advantage, so Anderson and USC (to a lesser extent) could work, as have a good alumni network there (Anderson being very strong in Real Estate investing). Other good options will be Haas and Stanford, or strong finance schools that have extensive networks and prestige (think Wharton, Booth). Anyway, I would go to the beat school you get in and then do extensive networking. Being at an MBA business schools">M7 will open more doors and with the right strategy you can get interviews in any geography
What about available roles for MBA candidates? Is it usually for acquisitions associate or AVP roles?
It will depend on the fund and your previous experience. a lot of folks going to PE post-MBA already have PE experience, so they can leverage that out
Anderson, Marshall (MBA/MSRE), and Haas can all get you there. GSB has the highest ranking of course but I don't think they prioritize RE at all.
Anderson is great, my CIO came from there. But Marshall and Haas can both get you to where you want to be
Not sure if you have enough years of exp to qualify, but Wharton has offered exec. MBA from SF in the past. Not sure its status or cost (usually very high), but good option if you want to stay on West Coast while doing degree
