Best part about living in NYC?
Title is kinda self-explanatory; just a senior in college who’s excited to move to NYC after graduation. Will be joining a BB (MS/GS/JPM) as a first year IB analyst.

The energy it used to have
I think it is a great place if you are a "city kid" or just want the huge amount of people in one space. all the flagship store, brands, shopping, clubs, nightlife etc exists in one place. you don't need to own a car if you don't want one. all services are around the corner.
Having said that, a large city invigorates you with drive and motivation, but it also takes away a lot of energy in other ways.
A city is much faster than regular life.
The crack addicts in broad daylight...
The kangaroo-sized rats
24/7 food
The rent that closely mirrors what most people pay for 5-6 bedroom homes elsewhere in the country.
Yesterday I saw a guy sitting in his own shit so there’s that.
not unique to NYC, saw that in my frat house
The stench from the Hudson River. Home sweet home.
This largely depends on where you live within NYC. However, the views are unmatched. The summer experience in NYC is lively because there are endless activities to do. In the winter, activites slow down for obvious reasons but there are still plenty of restaurants & clubs to go to. The people who usually have something negative to say about NYC are either not from NYC or don’t make enough money to enjoy it. My advice to you as an outsider coming to NYC is not to be fixated on living in Manhattan. For the entry-level apartments(which I’m assuming you’d be going after)It’s super pricey and quite overrated. Brooklyn and Queens have better deals for apartments(more space and cheaper) than Manhattan. Transportation is also great in Brooklyn and some areas of Queens. Just come to NYC with an open mind and you’ll like it.
The weather being perfect for Canada Goose ~9 months out of the year
Having hobos kick empty soda cans at you when you walk by
The girls who can’t afford to live in the city and let any semi attractive guy have fun with them
Drugs can get delivered faster than Ubereats in most parts of the country
Robust Seamless options to choose from before cranking out the rest of a CIM til 5:00am
There's just always something to do. There's a world for every one to indulge. No matter your views, political stance, style/fashion, conservatism/aggression, you can literally find yourself or enhance who you already are in this filthy, trash/rat infested city.
Gotta love that smell of hot garbage in August literally everywhere you go.
Few things smell worse than the stench of decaying food placed in black trash bags on the corner of streets. Left for days, the decomposition and smell are worsened by the heat while the smell lingers in the humidity of a typical August day. My god.
I read DeBlasio is looking to lay off 22k city workers Oct 1, would have to assume some of those are sanitation. Hopefully, it cools down by then and the stench of the extra garbage will zero out with the lower temperatures!
Getting to experience the transition to a third-world country (city?) first hand. It will be a case study for years to come.
smearing my sperm on random walls
As a junior banker being in the center of the financial world provides a great start to your career
And as you get older, not having to relocate to change jobs is nice
