Best research platform for M&A?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if somebody could help me out with determining which platform would be best suited for research at an IB for M&A. The M&A in question would be middle market and small cap M&A. I would need the ability to search for both public and private deals and information as well as industry comps.
Would I simply go with a Bloomberg vs. Thomson vs. CapIQ vs. FacSet comparison in helping me make my decision or are there other service providers to consider?
Any help at all would be appreciated!
Cheers
Usually for private deals you'd use a data room. Public wise, Cap IQ and SEC docs should be adequate.
Thanks for the response! So Bloomberg would be a far in excess of my needs? Do you have any experience for FactSet? And is there no database where I can access to basic figures on private deals that have occurred? i.e. Price, size etc?
Cheers
mergermarket has info also about private deals. PM me if you want more info. We use bloomberg/ factset in addition.
mergermarket, capital iq (spotty), thomsonone (my associate's favourite when looking for data on transacted deals)
MergerMarket, Thomson One, and Zephyr here with Orbis to supplement hard-to-find numbers. I use all to create a complete picture as sometimes you'll have information on one deal that you won't have from another source.
