Best Way to Learn RE Modeling
Hey all, just wondering what's the best way to learn RE modeling for a career switcher. Currently in consulting and just completed the BIWS Fundamentals of Modeling to get some background. Buying another BIWS course seems pretty pricey, so I want to make sure that's the best out there before pulling the trigger. Any advice on BIWS vs other paid / free options?
Thanks!
REFM and BIWS are preached heavy here but you're right, pricey. if you got the basics down I dont think buying another super expensive program will be all that worthwhile
I've also seen a number of people on here talk about Udemy and them being much cheaper. Look into those if you want a cheaper option
Justin Kivel on Udemy offers great courses that can teach complex formulas and situations. I took my course back in March for $15. There’s usually weekly deals on the courses. So for example, Monday-Friday, it may be priced $149.99 but on the weekend it’ll drop to like $19.99...I don’t know why but the courses are real good.
Just saw it for $11.99 and picked it up. Seems like a cheap enough price to at least give it a try. Thank you!

Adventuresincre.com is really good. You can download free models from their website and they even have a youtube channel where they upload videos showing how to build their models step by step. On top of that, Joshua Kahr has a good youtube channel for basics to real estate finance & modelling and he even has a document with a bunch of REPE case studies on his website.

Sent in pm, but thought others might find this useful too:
I was in a similar position last year- was considering pulling the trigger on BIWS, but I'm glad I didn't. Go through the basics on a.cre, especially his 'watch me build' case study (https://www.adventuresincre.com/watch-model-real-estate-technical-inter…) and get your hands on foundations of real estate financial modelling by Roger Staiger (plenty of pdf's floating around). When you get the basics, get your hands on as many case studies as possible- check out Josh Kahr, he recently uploaded a case study doc. I'd say the best way to learn this is by doing it and figuring out how to solve them instead of following a guide, as during recruiting you'll be expected to build from scratch and you won't have those BIWS, etc templates to look at.
