Hello Everyone,
I've been trying my best to follow the news and major indices through free apps like CNBC and Yahoo Finance, but it's just not working out. I'm thinking about buying a WSJ subscription, but I also want to be able to turn on some finance news in the background while I work. What are the best ways to watch finance news on the internet/my phone (subscription or not idc)? Then, what are the best apps to read finance articles?

if you’re looking for SUPER substantive news, maybe, but if you’re a beginner and need something easy / digestible to get started with, it’s great. worked well for me at least when I was getting started

Check if your school has an agreement with the FT for free subscriptions for students. I know mine did and the same was true for a number of my friends.
Your university more than likely has a student discount or offer with WSJ and Financial Times. When I was in undergrad I think I had both delivered / digital access for about $20/$30 a year. I’d look into that too!

This might be useful to others as well. I would have PMd but there's some persistent issue. I'm actually still in high school, but our school gives us access to WSJ and NYT as I mentioned above. We also get Bloomberg Businessweek. (Our librarian pretty much gives around the passwords to anyone who asks so there's probably a lot of people not from our school using these credentials to get in.)

If anyone has any trouble getting in, ask me and I'll try to help. As for newsletters, I get a bunch of newsletters from Axios. Just look up Axios newsletters. They have 20+ newsletters in topics ranging from politics to general business/industry to and even sports. I think you would find Axios Pro Rata, Markets, Edge, and Trends to be useful. Some of the other ones can be interesting too, based on your preferences.
PitchBook News has a great newsletter called the Daily Pitch that's dedicated to VP, PE, & M&A.
Others have mentioned Morning Brew and I think that's a pretty decent newsletter to get.
Investopedia has a newsletter that's educational in nature, so that's useful for students.
My advice to you is not to get every single newsletter. Aside from clogging up your inbox, it ends up being too much information to digest on a daily basis. You probably won't have the time or the energy to fully comprehend everything they write. It's better to just have a couple of newsletters and really read them from start to finish instead of just skimming through them and gaining pretty much no value. If you really want to register what you read, I suggest logging it down. Maybe have a dedicated notebook and just jot down a couple of things that you found particularly interesting. Those things will stick with you and that's important. Just leaving on news in the background might not actually be that helpful to you.
