Better for a Resume: Portfolio Management or Equity Research
So I'm involved with a student org that has some changes going on. Generally, we do our own equity research and invest on a fundamental basis. We have a chance to really step up our risk and portfolio management game but only a few people would have really hands on access to making decisions.
Essentially, with all the work that portfolio management entails for a fund manager, especially as students, should we be emphasizing our equity research (which is actually pretty good) or our portfolio management efforts? What do firms care about more?
