Big 4 Audit, a mistake?

Hi Monkeys,

I was wondering if I could get some advice from you guys. I am currently a UK student attending a top university (non-Oxbridge but competes with them for my subject, think Warwick/Imperial) on track to achieve a strong first class degree (which I believe equates to a GPA of 3.7+). I know that sometime down the line I want to start a business (sooner rather than later) and that I also want to attend an M7 business school or LBS/INSEAD before hand.

For my ultimate goal, I believe the skill sets from getting an ACA qualification from a Big 4 Firm here in the UK would put me in the best possible position for starting my own business, however I am worried this may affect my business school options greatly. I know the Big 4 are regarded a lot lower in the USA then here in the UK but I don't know if I would be handicapping myself versus if I went into say Consulting, Hedge Funds or Asset Management (can't do IBD due to health reasons).

Would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

It sounds like intuitively you know exactly what you need to do. I'm not too familiar with the admissions standards of these schools, however you are already at a top school with good grades. Don't sell your personal vision or business vision for prestige. You have already stated that the Big 4 are held in higher regard in the UK so I don't see how that would handicap you in any way(in terms of admissions). Good luck.

Thank you very much for the response and I see, I need to try to not sell that vision but I was just unsure as to whether the MBA business schools ">M7 would consider the difference in between Big 4 USA and Big 4 UK (it still isn't close to as "prestigious" here as the aforementioned fields). I guess I should try to deal with that hurdle when I get to that point?

Try and dive deep into the admissions data of the perspective schools. Allot of skills are transferable (generally speaking). If you are that concerned with placement consider shooting for highest job in terms of prestige and relevant skills. Don't forget to keep an open mind to alternative routes to the end goal you have in mind. There's no one way to do anything. Good luck
