BlackRock or PwC?
Hi,
I have been offered a position as an Advisory Intern at PwC and one as a Corporate Actions Analyst at BlackRock.
My aim is to get eventually hired by McKinsey and I'd like to know the pros and cons of each position and each company.
As for me, my weaknesses are that I don't come from a target University and my GPA is quite mediocre, and my strengths are that I speak four languages and, considering jobs, internships, volunteering programmes, and studies I have experiences in several countries and three continents. Could my strengths be enough to counter my weaknesses? My fear is that I might be automatically rejected by the automated pre-screening.
Thank you all.
Hey karloskendaj, sorry about the delay, but are any of these useful:
If we're lucky, maybe I can guilt some users to help you out: Bükre-Bektaş elgodfather dwv11002
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Unless you are going to be in Strategy&, I would say you should pick Blackrock.
I think you should go with BlackRock. IMHO McKinsey would respect the brand way more. I have a friend at a borderline semi-target who interned with McKinsey and didn't even get an interview. Also you should focus on networking as "interesting experiences" only help when you've gotten an interview already.
Disagree. A consulting role at a brand name is better than a back/middle office role at an asset management firm. It's consulting experience, client facing and the work will be more interesting.
You probably won't lateral direct to either role, but advisory is a step closer to where you want to go and will set you up better for b-school (the most likely transition point for you.
Agree with the above.
Blackrock > Big 4
In my book, BlackRock is on the level of Goldman Sachs, which is equal to MBB. PWC is a significant step down from that (unless we're referring to S&, which based on your post I don't think is the case)

Has PwC already started recruiting for 2019 SA's?
BlackRock is strong, I'm just not sure I'd put in the same league as GS... It's also tough to compare apples and oranges; one works in asset management, the other in IB.
Frankly, neither BlackRock nor PwC will position you optimally for MBB. Your best bet is to crush it at PwC (I'm presuming you aren't interning at Strategy&), and play the long game by grooming your experience for a great B-School application.
I know 2 alums that lateraled from PwC to McK for what its worth. At a non-target
Is the BlackRock role an operations role? There are core ops functions at BlackRock that support COACs. If that is what it is, I would take PwC Advisory.
