Blackstone way more established in FIG. KKR going through a bit of turmoil at the moment because head of FIG left earlier this year
Blackstone FIG is very good. They've had a few mediocre investments, but on the whole the FIG investment partner is an absolute savage. Very very smart.
As someone else, noted KKR FIG is a bit more of a question mark. It feels like a bit of a skeleton crew currently. Not sure what the circumstances were surrounding the group head's departure, but it is a bit odd that he completely disappeared off the map.
Thanks, really helpful insight from both. Who was KKR’s FIG head and who is Blackstone’s investment partner? Any idea how these groups compare with APO? APO seems very strong in FIG, based on a recent thread on here.
Also, any idea how much either of these groups focus on FinTech vs. balance sheet-heavy sectors like Banks or Insurance?
Blackstone has done a lot of capital intensive fig investments, too many to list but in insurance Catalina and Aspen, in lending Exeter, Sterns, Lendmark, there are certainly others. They play everywhere though, I'm sure they have a lot of capital light tech/services investments as well in FIG
Not as familiar with KKR, not as big a presence.
Apollo plays all over FIG, they’re extremely sharp in the space, would probably put them ahead of Bx slightly but it’s close
