Founded an investment research company under the legal status of an LLC. Details include writing equity research reports on a dozen equities with detailed financial comparative analysis. In addition, wrote over 50 articles on personal finance, accounting, investing and other related topics. Lastly created small business accounting templates with automatic financial statement reconciliation that is currently being used by local businesses.

Certifications
• March 2019 - CFA Institute Investment Foundations certificate
• September 2012 - Adobe Certified Associate with Premiere Pro

Skills
• Helped raise a service dog puppy over 8 months for -Nonprofit namehere- (a nonprofit helping disabled kids reach independence in -this region-)
• Solid financial communication and presentation skills demonstrated by -my company name- research reports
• Strong sense of community after being involved with local entrepreneurship group during high school and community college as the student marketing advisor
• Synthesis level proficiency with financial ratios and investment vehicles shown by my investment research performance of 6.45% in 2018 (outperforming the S&P500 by over 15%)
• Honed memory and visualization skills proven by the ability to play blindfold chess

I have always been able to visualize things pretty well. Pretty sure it has significantly improved my math skills which were at one point horrid. For how long it took me to learn to play blindfold I think it was a few months after I got more serious about playing chess but at that point, my ability was poor at best and could only make it to move 10 or so before starting to forget where pieces were.

I can complete games blindfolded and even win some games if the opponents are weak enough. I've never played blindfold against anyone "really good" at chess but your average dad or chess player at a school I could play blindfold against and have really good winning chances. Probably the longest blindfold game I have won was against a high schooler that took about 35-40 moves-ish.

Chess has always been an active hobby of mine I am nobody special at it by any means even if I can see the board.

Very cool hobby! I have been playing chess for 10 years and earned a FIDE master title at the age of 15. But i never actually practiced playing blindfolded, although some of my friends can do it at a decent level. I should definitely try to do it as well

Your resume leaves me confused - not good. I read this and I have nothing but questions.

If you're a CC transfer, why still 4 years away from graduation? Why don't you list a GPA? If you're too new to PSU, where's your GPA at the CC? Is this company of yours more of a side project for a few extra bucks while you're in school full-time? Or was this actually fully supporting you? I can't tell because I don't see dates when you were enrolled in CC, or when you graduated HS. Again stemming from confusion on how far removed you are from HS, I wonder if the 2012 certification implies you got it in middle school? If so, it doesn't belong on your resume. If not, what else have you been doing with your life since you left HS?

Until you can give some kind of clearer picture of who you are, this resume is worthless. It goes straight in the trash.

Thank you so much I wasn't sure if the dates would leave people with more questions than answers. I will clear things up and make a revised one. I graduated high school in 2015 and am now enrolled at portland state.

I have had a strange ride the last few years; long story short I got pretty sick and had to leave withdrawing from community college in 2016 (completing 47 credits for Accounting AAS). Just this January I decided to go back to college to finish my education (I could have this fall)

Now I am 100% better and ready to do battle with my interests again this term I just completed 8 more credits ontop of the 47 I earned before. My GPA before I got sick was 3.7 and dropped to 3.2 when I fell sick. The person helping me with the resume before said to leave off GPA since its below 3.5 currently and I can't really explain away the drop to a satisfactory degree on a resume. I don't want to give off the impression I might fall sick again which is extremely unlikely to happen. Won't go into specifics but was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that caused me to faint often and was having trouble breathing during the day.

Little unclear on how I should go about changing but will bring this up to the people helping me with the resume.

The business I have right now doesn't do supporting revenue, I made 575 in 2018 with it but I never expected it to actually earn anything. The point was more or less to see what I could do with the knowledge I had and to gain some practical experience before applying for internships/jobs/continuing education.

Thanks so much! They did not bring this up before.

I understand your dilemma and wish I could offer better advice on how to handle your medical absence. Were you 100% laid up during this time? Even if you were flipping burgers, you're young enough were any productive use of your time is better than a black hole.

My two cents: consider re-framing your website as an activity or interest rather than placing it under a heading that implies Work Experience. By calling it a job I'm immediately skeptical, ie "who does this kid think he's fooling trying to tell me people are paying a college freshman for equity research." If you call it an activity, now I'm impressed that you would devote some of your free time to finance and, oh by the way wow, he actually made a few bucks!

"All in all, it seems like you have fantastic experience" I second that. You just need to turn it into something interesting to read. Here are some things I noted in your PDF resume.

  • "Computer Hardware assembly" doesn't seem relevant for a wealth management internship
  • "Adobe Certified Associate with Premiere Pro" same as above
  • "Lastly created small business accounting templates" drop the lastly, it's a bullet point, not the end of a paragraph
  • "Published investment research gained 6.45% and outperformed the S&P500 during 2018 by over 15%" I like that you have given the actual numbers. But I am left with many questions. Was your research published publicly? Can I access it? Did you sell it? Or did you make money with the "50 articles on personal finance"? What were your research methods? "detailed financial comparative analysis" doesn't tell me much about what you did or where your financial modelling skills stand at.

Generally, I think the bullet points are too descriptive. It reads like a diary of your time spent over the last couple years. My first resumes were like that too. It is much better to give actual examples and write out what you achieved and how. I'm certainly not perfect at that either but maybe the below helps to convey what I mean.

Initially I only had this bullet point on my resume: * Consulted in the implementation of robotic process automation solutions

Then I turned it into this: * Assisted in the initial phase of an intelligent automation project at a global financial services provider * Created a PM tool in Excel with VBA capabilities on own initiative removing the need for a paid tool * Coordinated autonomously with international support team to develop new VBA capabilities for RPA

Edit: What's up with the dashes "-Community College-", "-Service DogsOrganization-" and "-City-Entrepreneurship Group"?

Okay this is starting to make more sense. I need to #1 quantify results and describe the things better.

And on the Published investment research gained 6.45% and.... line I did mention all my reports are publicly available and they are timestamped. Also my LLC filing has a general report of activities done and this is included in the report (freely displayed on my website and again timestamped).

I have something I did achieve very very similar to your second bullet point. I created a series of functions (not in VBA) that pull data from online into google sheets saving the need for a $400 a year plugin. Imports financial statements from the last 3 years in a systematic way where I punch in a ticker and it pulls from all three financial statements.+ Expanding specifics on financial modeling.

I can switch that out and around.

The feedback is incredible. Thanks so much again.

What classes are you taking currently? That's the minimum I would write. Will you take an elective or work on any projects before the internship starts? Are you a member of any club? Maybe you can organise something before you submit the application to put it on your resume.

Updated! https://docdro.id/dlL3FiQ

I just remembered something that might also be important I have basic knowledge of SQL. Wondering if this will do or I should remove broker interfaces (I have personal knowledge of Schwab, Fidelity, Merill, Robinhood, TD, and a couple other less useful ones).

Also if I should mention in a cover letter (once I get there) about helping a couple of people manage and select ETFs/Mutual funds for their retirement portfolios. I helped allocate about 50k in total (unpaid of course or id be violating laws).

Lastly how do I go about explaining my poor 3.16 GPA/3.39 GPA. I feel like my reasoning is serious enough to be able to get something back for it. (Mentioned above autoimmune disorder caused me to faint a lot and was overly tired took almost 2 and a half years to get fixed fully).

  • Broker interfaces seem more relevant for wealth management than SQL. But since you have enough space on your resume I would still mention it.

  • I would definitely mention in your cover letter that you helped people manage their retirement savings. It's relevant for an internship in wealth management and it shows that your passionate about managing money and creating investment plans.

  • Sorry, I don't have any experience with that. Some firms offer the opportunity for applicants to mention stuff that's relevant (but doesn't fit in resume or cover letter) during the online application process. There should be a free text box. Probably in one of the last steps. You should do a dry run with the online application process anyway. Have a look.
