BNPP v GS
Hi all, I have received two very good offers and would be grateful for choice advice. I got offers from BNPP for IBD, and GS for ER.
After uni I want to work in IB and was wondering which of these would position me best for that career. Thanks!
you want to work in IB and have an offer in IB...
lateral after SA is virtually impossible (yes even from non-IB GS) so don't expect to jump from GS ER to another BB/EB. You would likely end up somewhere "lower" than BNP anyway so just take that offer now
Do you know which team in ER?
I would take the GS offer, my two flatmates work in Securities and PWM at GS and I work in IBD at a non bulge bracket (HSBC/Nomura etc..). Despite both of them not even being in IBD, they still get recruited for more PE/HF roles than me due to the GS brand.
PWM to PE??
Not usually possible but if at GS then the brand makes anything possible. You’d be amazed at how much recruiters prefer the GS brand to skill set.
Even if recruiters reach out to them does that necessarily mean the PE firms will hire them over someone who did non-GS IB though

goto GS - this is a no brainer
