Bombarding a group with networking email

Hi guys,

What are your opinions regarding networking with one specific group. I am trying to get an interview with a MM firm, and I can only seem to find people in their Leverage Finance group. I am afraid of sending the same generic letter to multiple people. What do you think? Second, how do you manage to ask them to coffee? In my emails, I have only asked for brief time to talk on the phone because I feel that they would be more incline to do so. A lot of people mentioned that i should just be direct, however, I am not sure as how to approach this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best,

Stop pigeon holeing yourself to one firm -- perhaps they aren't interested in meeting with you due to lack of demand for new employees or the group is really busy and under a lot of pressure at the moment -- look into other firms that are similar in the mean time. They will get annoyed if you keep spamming all of them -- they see your messages and will get back to you when they're free or want to.

Definitely best to not send the same email to people on the same team. They will talk and will be much less inclined to respond if it's not personalized in some way. And as the above poster said, branch out to other firms and you won't have this problem.

On the coffee topic just always close your email with "And I was wondering whether you'd be able to grab a quick coffee or speak with me on the phone about your experiences" or something along those lines. This way you make it casually known that you'd prefer coffee but are flexible for whatever's most convenient for them

In my opinion, one of the best ways you can establish rapport with a group is to just target one person that you have some sort of connection with (you usually can find one) and see if they would be willing to meet for coffee. After that you should ask them if they would be willing to let you talk to others in the group.

If they like you then they almost always will introduce you to others. The real advantage there is that we tend to naturally associate a person with the person who made the introduction - even if someone is introducing a person they don't actually know. It's much more effective than a cold contact from my experience.

not op but I want to ask if a person does not response, should I follow up and email another person at a group at the same time? I was thinking of emailing 2 persons at a time (ER division of a BB non-NY office, with about 40 employees) is it okay if I email 2 a week, if no response, follow up with them (just follow up once) and at the same time email one more person? Many thanks!
