Been trying to read a lot more while stuck at home all day. I've read some good finance books that I've seen recommended on here, but looking for some more engaging books to really kill some time. Any good fiction recommendations? Can be any genre really

Whenever I'm looking for new books to read I go on goodreads.com. Search for books you've read and liked and they'll suggest other books you might like. Their lists are also great for exploring books.
^ Yep I use goodreads too. Problem is my "want to read" list is over 300 books... need some help narrowing it down lol

you ever read Bel Ami that one is pretty good. the main character is basically playing 4d chess the entire book and the book makes all of the other characters look like retards so it is a bit unrealistic I think that Lost Illusions by Balzac has a similar vibe and is more interesting to read but Bel Ami is a lot of fun to read

Dark Matter - pretty interesting book about being able to go to other universes and see what life would’ve looked like if you had taken another path. Essentially a book proving up the multiverse theory - really well done thriller
Popcorn Fiction?
I really like 'Hard' sci-fi:
The original 'Foundation' series by Asimov is great.
Niven was also great with 'The Mote in God's Eye' and 'Ringworld'
Less hard but still good are:
All five books in 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' "trilogy" By Douglas Adams and his 'Dirk Gentry's Holistic Detective Agency' books aren't bad either. (Don't judge from the movies, the writing is very good, the movies are junk)
Terry Pratchett is also good. If you liked the 'Good Omens' series try the book.
I'm also going to go way out in left field here, and it isn't really sci-fi, but more Indiana Jones. Consider the Doc Savage books. I'm pretty certain that they're flirting with public domain in many places right now considering their age but they're a pleasant read.
If all else fails, you can just read Game of Thrones. That'll keep you occupied for a month.

What do you find wrong about it?
How hard do you want to work? If you're looking for books to chew on, that need time and patience devoted to analyzing them, then you can't go wrong scrolling through a list of Man Booker prize winners or nominees.
"The Lords of Discipline" by Pat Conroy is EXCELLENT. The writing is truly marvelous -- it's like you have a movie in your head about life at a Southern military college (loosely based off The Citadel).

I prefer The Alchemist
If you haven't read it I'd recommend Dune, especially since Denis Villeneuve's film adaptation is due out at the end of the year, which should be pretty phenomenal if his track record is anything to go by.
I can't wait for the Dune movie, if Villeneuve can't make it work then no one can. Plus the cast looks great!
You know, I never really got into Frank Herbert's writing. The imaginary world is ok, but I always stumbled on his descriptions of it. He's like the anti-Hunter S. Thompson who could make a motorcycle review read like Shakespeare. (I'm serious, http://www.latexnet.org/~csmith/sausage.html )

The Black Dahlia James Ellroy - this book is badass. He also wrote LA Confidential which got turned into a movie - haven't read this one yet but the movie is badass. I also like Lost Illusions Balzac and Vineland Thomas Pynchon.

Ghost Fleet by P.W Singer.
It's a got geopolitics, futuristic warfare, and a psychopathic killer on the loose.
Great read.
Lord of the rings. Read the Hobbit first. Probably my favorite piece of fiction.
Someone already mentioned "good omens" I liked it. I can still see the 1926 Bentley on fire going about 90mph in my head. Probably one of the most BA cars of all time.
Not fiction but "godel escher bach" is a pretty good read. I think MIT has a course based on this book.
Atlas Shrugged
I had a book menacing angels: that night. The story will take you on a journey in the old time and places when societal rules were enforced to be followed strictly. The author Carolyn S Tanner book's storytelling, plot, and character are well-developed and hooked you to read till the end. I can recommend you check it out.
- American psycho, Reread it every once in a while, one of the only books that makes me chuckle out loud, the way he describes his life and other around him is just hilarious. Don't care for the murder stuff, so i skip that when I reread it.
