Books
Hello all,
I am currently a sophmore at WVU. It is almost finalized that I will be at the University of Maryland Next fall though as I feel that WVU is just not gonna do it for me. My dream since I was in middle school has been to do something with the stockmarket. It has fascinated me to no end since I was little and it just seems like a dream field. My ultimate goal is to own my own hedge fund one day, but I know that this industry can very quickly lead you into sectors of finance that I may not have seen myself in. I am also very interested in financial advising and could really see myself doing that out of school, but the ultimate goal is eventually to run my own fund. I dabbled in entrepreneurship for a few years so am a little behind the curve but I want to start learning. I am a finance major who has an internship lined up at a highly respected insurance group this summer. I figure this is something to put on a resume and can get me on the right track and maybe get me a better one next summer and just keep plugging away. I also do plan on eventually getting an MBA from a top school after a few years experience. What books should I start reading? I'm really just not sure where to start, because I assume that I need to read many other books before I even start dabbling into studying hedge funds. I want to start with a good foundation then keep learning. I have no problem reading hours a day. I am just looking for advice from people who are where I want to be. I apologize if I broke any forum norms in this post, but some help would be greatly appreciated. If you read this I truly appreciate you taking your time out to try to help a young college kid looking for some guidance. Thank you all.
Random Walk Down Wall Street
The Intelligent Investor
Good to Great
Flash Boys
Thank you very much I will most likely buy all 4. And is there a point in trying to intern or anything at hedge funds any time soon. I get the impression that I need banking/investing experience before I can work in one. I was thinking about trying to find a fund that would be willing to let me work for free and bad hours just so I can learn the ropes but it seems like people usually only go there once they have experience. I have no value to give them. I'm just starting to try to plan out next summer and don't want any time wasted. This industry just seems near impossible to get into so I'm just gonna work and learn and do whatever I need to in order to get there.
