Boston College MCAS Economics Major. Am I hopeless?
I will be studying at Boston College in the fall, but I will be in MCAS and not CSOM. I am planning on majoring in economics and hoping to work in investment banking. I would obviously like to work in Wall Street, but other major cities are fine too (Boston, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, etc.).
From what I have read so far, CSOM is a good program but it still isn't even a target school itself. Coming from MCAS, which would be further down the totem pole than CSOM, do I have a shot at an IB job given good grades, extracurriculars, and networking?
I hear that internal transfer to CSOM is nearly impossible. Should I plan to transfer to a target school after 1 year at BC? Some schools that I would apply to are:
-some Ivies like Cornell, Wharton, Brown (I know, extreme reaches and long shot)
-UVA Mcintire
-UNC
-Northwestern
-Emory Goizueta
-NYU Stern
I know that many of these schools would be long shots, but it is just a tentative list.
Just curious, what made you choose BC in the first place? Are you from the area?
You're not screwed, relax. I know plenty of guys that studied Econ at BC and are in IB/PE.
I'd recommend getting a good feel of the school within your first 3-4 months and make a decision on whether you want to transfer after that. BC is a solid school and really it just comes down to how you market yourself.
This. I actually think I met more people not in the business school (they made a point of mentioning it) during my years in IB.
Quite honestly leaving BC for NYU or Emory would be in my mind a terrible mistake. BC, while not prime target school, has INSANELY loyal alumni who are everywhere these days. By all means if you get into Brown then leave, but be careful in your decision. Best of luck to you.
Boston College MCAS Economics Major for IB? (Originally Posted: 06/01/2017)
I was wondering if it is possible to get a job in IB as an economics major at Boston College MCAS. I know that BB on Wall Street will be difficult, but what about in other cities like Boston? Or what about elite boutiques or MM in NYC? How is the OCR for MCAS students?
Dude, BC is in Boston, so you might want to think about Boston recruiting. Also you might want to move your topic to the Business School session and look for advice.
Use LinkedIn, it will be a far more robust sample than this forum.
