Boutique S&T
I was wondering if anyone had a list or knowledge of a good amount of boutiques that have a s&t program. I want this list because I am at a non-target and I feel this is my only way to break into s&t and work my way up to MM s&t and then possibly BB s&t. If any one knows of any other ways to break into s&t, specifically commodities, feel free to comment.

Boutique and S&T are pretty mutually exclusive, you will see a lot more small HFs, prop shops and the like. There are some smaller MMs (50 man shops) which do have them, for commodities, you might want to try airlines, railroads, trucking companies they usually have hedging groups
try commod brokers but you'll likely be a trade execution monkey... stepping stone nonetheless..

S&T boutiques in Tri State area? (Originally Posted: 05/30/2012)
I'm looking for S&T boutiques in the tri state area where financials are more abundant (MA, CT, NY) and it would really be helpful if anyone could help me with a list of firms.
Thanks to all in advance,
No New Jersey?
Massachusetts isn't considered the Tri-State area.
My bad, I'm not from the area lol. I'm looking for boutiques that could lead to full time ultimately and I'd like to live in MA, NY or CT (in that order from most desired)
how can you get into sales outside of a BB? (Originally Posted: 08/25/2010)
are there these mini-brokerages or boutique institutional sales firms? I'm looking to get into sales but because I'm a recent grad I can't go through an analyst program at a BB. What other avenues can I take?
Its a little tough cuz most non-BB recruiting salespeople expect them to bring over some sort of book of business/relationships.
Check out foreign banks that have a smallish satellite office in the U.S. (eg Handelsbanken, Erste Bank) as they have smaller institutional sales teams but are not boutique banks, it can be a good place to break into the business.
also try Sidoti, Miller Tabak, Needham, Baird, Weeden, etc
anywhere in the boston area in particular? best course of action is email + cold call I assume? thanks again all
I don't know of many based in Boston. I think Cannacord is up there. All big firms are gonna have regional offices in Boston, but it's less common for boutiques to have multiple offices - they will have guys covering Boston that are based out of NY. Most people would just move to New York.
