Brand names on shirts?
Are brands like Ralph Lauren and Vineyard vines fine for an IB job or does one need to have shirts without logos?

No logos my man. Especially monday-thursday.
The brand on your watch matters a ton, but not on your shirt. If you're new to dress shirts, pay attention to fit and fabric quality: the stakes are higher than on campus.

Can an SA wear a vintage IWC dress watch? Old 40s watch from my grandpa
Get Tommy Hilfiger everything. The biggest logos you can find, and go baggy, over-sized and wrinkled. Bonus points if the interviewer can hear 'Real Slim Shady' blasting from the headphones on your Diskman.
Supreme?
The big 12"X 18" Standard Tommy logo is fine.
I say a shirt with a small logo or just buy a shirt without a logo
shirt with small logos
True flexers forgo the logo
No logos. You don't want to draw unnecessary attention to your shirt.
Dress shirt with a giant SUPREME fuckboy logo is the way to go.
No logos is indeed the rule, but I wear Allen Edmonds polos to work. They have a logo but it's so subdued as to be effectively invisible.
I will say no logos on the shirt, but a nice watch is a must
Generally speaking, try and refrain from logos or at least try and keep the logo to a minimum.
For me a good rule of thumb for dress shirts is:
1) If you're wearing a suit (or a jacket with chinos outside of the office) - No logos 2) If you're wearing a tie (even without a jacket) - No logos 3) If you don't have to wear a jacket or a tie - Small logo (VV, polo, etc.) is allowable
I understand that the brands want to turn everyone into walking billboards, but even with no jacket or tie, is there any positive social signaling benefit from shirt logos?
That's a fair point, I guess there will always be someone walking around with a better label on than you at work, so trying to out brand someone always eventually earns you a nice ego check at some point.
I was speaking more along the lines of if you're already in a no jacket/no tie environment you can probably get away with a small logo here and there.
For me personally I like polo RL oxford shirts bc that's what my dad would wear to church on Sunday's as a kid growing up, so for some reason that just has always stuck with me.
Also, no shirt pockets when you're in the office.
No pockets, unless your name is Lloyd.
