Wondering if anyone here has broken in as an associate (no MBA or analyst stint) at a boutique or a middle market firm? I’m incredibly close to the flow of private placements in my market and have easy access to these banks. Would love to make this transition happen and would be incredibly grateful for any advice!

Just came across this the other day of someone who did exactly that. They had a background in a finance role with about 4-5 years at an industry specific company and was able to switch over as an IB associate to an industry specific I-Bank (mm/boutique). Both companies are in the same city so I'm sure that helped a bit.
