Breaking into a HF from non-target?

I am currently a sophomore at a non-target SEC school studying finance. This past summer I did an “internship” with a financial planner (more of a shadowing experience, I didn’t do much) and am currently an intern at a value investment firm.

My ultimate goal a few years after graduation is to break into a HF. I am wondering what path I could take by leveraging my (limited) experience. Especially what I ought to focus on for recruiting for my sophomore summer.

Whether this be ER, IB, or possibly S&T I would really appreciate some guidance and insight.
