Im looking for an opinion on whether or not consulting would help me break into the fixed income research world. I have recently graduated from MBA but am having difficulty finding fixed income research opportunities. I have a consulting opportunity but I really want to do fixed income research. I am thinking about taking the consulting role with the hope that having industry experience as a consultant will help me break into Research covering the same industry I did as a consultant.
Does this sound logical to anyone? It seems like a lot of research folks have a background in the specific industry they cover.

What kind of consulting are you referring to? I guess, no matter which type I can think of, it seems unusual.
Some consulting firms have finance groups. I'd work in those to get exposure to the finance side. Doing generic consulting and then trying to apply to fixed income research would be a tough sell without finance experience..assuming you did finance in MBA?
