Breaking into IB or PE from investment operations at top asset manager
Some background info, I got my degree from a state school, 3.2 gpa. Split my time running my family's food truck business. Taking level 1 of CFA in December.
A month after graduating and being unable to afford to be unemployed any longer I took an offer to join a top asset manager's cash management team. I've been here for about a year and am quickly realizing that I do not want to get stuck here like most of the people here. I think I've heard one story of a guy that made it to the fixed income group after completing his CFA. I have prior internship experience working FP&A at an entertainment company, and another internship at a mom and pop real estate appraisal shop.
Does anyone have any advice on how I could possibly make the jump to IB or PE? Or other moves that might put me in the right direction?
Thanks.
