Breaking into MBB/Top Tier

Hi WSO, this is my first post, but I have been a user for quite a while.

I am currently studying Economics at a semi-target UK university, expecting to graduate with a 1:1 (3.7 - 4.0 GPA). I have undertaken Spring internships in wealth management and at a boutique bank as well as a Summer internship in Fintech. This Summer I will be interning at a middle-market PE firm with £700-1000mn AUM.

I understand my experience is very mixed, but I am wanting to break into management consulting ideally MBB or the Big Four, whilst not completely shutting the door on working in finance. Due to the fact that I am still undecided, I thought PE would be the best option for Summer, allowing me to experience both the deal and operations side.

I am in my second year at University and considering that my Summer internship is in PE, I am exploring masters at UK target Universities.

Since I am only from a semi-target, do you feel the investment for a master at LBS, LSE or Imperial would be worth it? Also, if I was looking to work at MBB, would a masters in management be significantly more attractive than a masters in finance?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks WSO

Yes, as someone who did their master's at a target I can tell you my class was about 40% semi-target students. As for experience, it is varied and it seems to be good but if possible pivot to consulting either by applying to boutiques or financial/economic consulting firms in the summer of your final year. That should help with MBB and Big 4 applications. Also look into Tier 2s, they're better than the Big 4 in most cases
