Breaking Into Wall Street RE Modeling Course
Has anyone here taken this and do they recommend it?
I am in CRE consulting/valuation for a large Accounting/Consulting Firm. currently with an MBA concentration in RE. I have a huge desire and career goal to transition to the Investment/Principal side. The thing most lacking in my skills is advanced RE modeling so I'm looking to up my game (I will not improve these skills at my current job). I applied to a REPE shop in a month or so with the idea that I was probably a little under-qualified. Surprisingly they called me and set up a first round interview which went well. They advanced me on to the next stage which was a take home case study. I spent the better part of a weekend on it (37 hours total). While it was good work, it was not good enough to advance me to the final round presentation - hence my needing to improve my modeling skills.
So what are y'alls thoughts on this course? I'm open to other suggestions as well.
If I recall correctly, BIWS's RE Modeling course is based on Public REIT modeling. If that's the case, while it's tangentially helpful for a REPE interview, it will not be the type of modeling that you do at a REPE firm.
GetREFM.com is more aligned with the modeling required by REPE firms. However, it's a bit verbose when it comes to explaining everything.
In my opinion, the best (and cheapest) method it to find a few REPE Interview Case Studies (I believe some are floating around this forum) and complete them from beginning to end. Once complete, ask a peer with RE experience to review them and provide constructive criticism on your work.
If you find some and want to practice, I'll be glad to look at the end-product of some of your models.
Agree with this.
BIWS actually has 3 REPE cases that they walk you through very nicely which I think have been very helpful. They're cases from 2014.
I do agree REFM is more verbose but the models Bruce shows are a lot simpler.
