Breaking through to an analyst position
I was wondering if it is possible to get a position at one of these Asset Management/advisory firms straight from graduate school. I am working on completing my MS Finance from a reputable school and wanted to know if you could get a job at these places as an entry level analyst. I only ask because all these blogs are about getting a job at one of the Prestigious firms: GS, BOA, JPM..... so on and so on. Is it necessary to have the experience from one of these brand names to be a fund/equities analyst at a smaller private firm?????
Appreciate the info.
Find out who the powers that be are, and establish a connection with them. Send them an email to introduce yourself and ask to go out for a cup of coffee (if you're in the area) or a brief chat on the phone.
Once you do that, you've got a good a shot as anybody.
some of the fidelity/pimcos types of the world have programs
Of course you can. Be creative...stand tall above the rest. Let them know that you chose them over the others.
Coming from a reputable grad school with the MS in Finance, assuming you have good grades, you definitely have a chance to score an analyst position at an AM firm. You even qualify for interviews at the firms you mentioned, so why not try for that for a couple years, get the name on your resume, and then move to MM?
I am coming out of Villanova...I know its not a targeted school but it should have some weight in Northeast...Also, hope to graduate a 3.6.
It seems as if the big firms are too competitive. Thats why I was wondering about the possibillities of joining as an analyst at PE or hedge fund. Getting the interview alone is difficult, let alone landing the position.
