Bringing Resume to Restaurant ?

In a month from now I have a networking event at a restaurant with a non BB bank. I have never been to a networking event at a restaurant, and I have a concern on whether or not I should bring a resume.

IMO it would seem rather uptight of me to if I were to sit down with a huge padfolio while everyone's primary focus is the food. Should I just ditch the resume, relax, and just mingle like a normal person?

Make a simple business card with your personal name@gmail email address. Make it be something that you wouldn't be embarrassed to hand out to both high level and low level people.

These are super cheap at places like vistaprint.com

Resume or not, you should bring something to take notes with. Maybe a smaller notebook, but definitely a pen and some paper. If they ask for your resume you can always tell them your background verbally and email it to them after.

If I ever get bored enough I'm writing a "How to be Normal" WSO guide.

You'll catch nothing but monkey shit around these parts

Not to mention the "help me be top tier normal" threads that will pop up after.

Someone handing you a resume in this sort of situation is like having a guest in your house trying to spruik an MLM over dinner. It brings shame and embarrassment to everyone involved.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

don't forget to write that you're an aspiring MBA candidate

You killed the Greece spread goes up, spread goes down, from Wall Street they all play like a freak, Goldman Sachs 'o beat.

Just bring a few copies and stick it in your bag. If the occasion arises, whip it out, otherwise that's just your bag because you're coming from work. I don't know if the other guy was being facetious, but I would recommend a bag(small messenger bag or laptop bag type thing, NOT a backpack) over a padfolio because you can set it on the ground by your chair and no one has to see it. Plus no one brings a padfolio unless they're at an interview.

Bring a pen and paper as another user said. If you are a student I would shy away from making business cards (disclaimer: personal opinion). However, I would collect business cards from folks you meet there. This is good for two reasons, (1) you don't get in the zone of just passing out as many resumes/business cards as possible, and (2) it puts the ball in your court.

I'd rather have the contact info of the person at the bank so I can contact them, rather than leaving it up to them when they probably have dozens of resumes laying around waiting to find their way into the trash.

Good luck.
