Britain bans gas/diesel cars starting in 2040

Hey monkeys,

Britain has recently announced that they will be banning gas and diesel cars starting 2040 with a goal of producing zero emissions by 2050. Britain, along with India, France, and Norway, is pushing towards maintaining the climate by getting rid of a massive source of air pollution. I think that if more countries and/or companies invested enough time and money into the effort, we might have the technology to achieve the goal of making electric cars affordable enough to take over gas and diesel cars by 2040.

Do you guys think that electric cars will be able to take over by then?
How will the oil market be affected by this in the future?
Do you guys think investing in companies assisting in this effort will prove to be valuable?
Other thoughts/comments?

We have already had this technology for quite some time. Most people think that the Tesla Model S was their first car but they don't even know about the Roadster. Electric cars can thrive across the planet but Oil/Gas lobbying firms won't let it go so easy.

Think about the billions Aramco, Chevron, Shell, and BP are producing through the industry and the amount they're funneling to politicians to not aim for reform. It is no phenomena that EVs exploded on the market out of nowhere. The technology was always there, just no sense of direction because the Oil/Gas business was just fine.

Also consider the fact that government subsidies are given to certain companies over others: Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon...etc. Why does Tesla not get any subsidies but Lockheed does?
